My First Attempt

I didn't know how to start so I just found a scroll saw pattern that I liked, printed it on ordinary bond paper and cut it out with an xacto knife..

Coloured Paper

Next piece was a little more difficult. There were more, small cutouts and it was done on a thicker piece of coloured paper.

The Buddies

Another great scrollsaw pattern. I put a blue coloured paper behind for a water theme..

My Place

This is a scrollsaw pattern made by Charles Dearing in memory of a pet of a fellow scroller. Image size is 9" X 5.5"

More of a Challenge

I wondered how thin a line could be left so I tried this chinese pattern of a flower and cardinal. It is 7" X 7"

Getting Braver..

Looking for more of a challenge, I found this chinese design of birds and flowers on the internet. There are four in the series and this is just one. It is 7.5" X 5". Smaller and more care is needed curing the cutting.

Good Boy

Another wonderful scrollsaw pattern. Don't you just love the look in his eye? 8.5" X 7"

Another Chinese Design

I found a very interesting set of four patterns of peacock on the internet. This is just one of the four. Siz 8.5" X 5.5"

Night Stalker

A great scrollsaw pattern by Mike Williams. I loved cutrting this one in paper - so many holes but no sawdust in my nose! finished size 8.25" X 6.5"

Bobwhites

Another great scrollsaw pattern by Mike Williams. The grass stems in this cutting were a real challenge. 7.5" X 6"

Dragon & Pheonix

Another great chinese pattern from the web. It was very delecate cutting all the small, scales and feathers. Finished size 8.75" X 7.5"

Lady in the Mask

A delightful victorian-style pattern with a lot od delicate cuts. Finish size 5" X 8"

On the Wing

Another great Mike Williams pattern of ducks landing in a pond. Finished size 9.5" X 7.5"

Kittens

Another challenge by Mike Williams. Lots of thin lines and open spaces. I applied a little colour for variety. Size 8.25" X 6.25"

Poem

After seeing one on the internet, I thought I would try and cut out some lettering. This text is 6" wide by 2" high. It is in a frame with flowers in the background (see next photo)

Poem (Detail)

This is the text of the Poem that I am holding in my hand to show the size of the lettering.

Old Cedar Mill

By far the hardest, most detailed cutting to date - especially the water and boards on the mill. Finished size is 7.25" W X 9.25" H

Mill (Detail)

When I began cutting this piece, I took an early picture of my progress and included a ruler with inces & centimeters on it to give viewers an ideal of the size of the cuts.
